Mission: To foster the culture and practice of metrology as one instrument for competitiveness and quality of life.

Vision: One independent and representative entity, endowed with credibility as to Society, and being devoted to the scientific and technologic development of metrology.

 

Aiming at the fostering of metrology-related culture and practice as instruments for competitiveness and quality of life, Sociedade Brasileira de Metrologia (SBM) is a private law, non-profit society of a civil nature, having its own headquarters and regional offices located in different regions of Brazil, gathering natural persons and legal entities, with the purpose of developing the Brazilian metrology and its lining up with the modern practices and trends of worldwide metrology.

Based upon the interdisciplinarity that is proper of metrology, SBM catalyses its action and fosters the intertwining of professionals originating from all the specialized sectors at the different levels of the academic-and-professional graduations.

Among other features, the standing of SBM is highlighted by the independency of its action of nongovernmental entity that has no links whatsoever with public or private groups or organizations, operating therefore in a manner of freedom, which is free from conflicts of interest, in accordance with one ethical-and-professional code that strengthens its leadership and representativeness and its power of intertwining.
